Star-forming regions in Orion never cease to amaze us. The James Webb captured this image of OMC-2, a dark cloud located just north of the better-known Orion Nebula (M42), about 1,280 light-years from Earth. Every stage of star formation--from the youngest stellar embryos to protoplanetary disks and newly formed stars--is present in this scene, which spans 150 light-years: a stunning spectacle of undulating outflows and bright stars set against layers of turbulent gas and dense dark clouds.
