It's clear that to fully exploit the potential of the Amalfi Spider -- or at least try to -- it's better to keep the roof closed. But driving it with the top down has its own magic, thanks to a five-layer roof that opens in just 13.5 seconds, even at speeds of up to 37 mph. With the roof down, the engine sounds noticeably louder and feels closer, while wind turbulence remains surprisingly well controlled, even at highway speeds. Interestingly, there is no traditional wind deflector between the rear headrests, which would have disrupted the car's clean silhouette. Instead, pressing a button on the center console releases and raises the lower section of the rear seatbacks, creating a horizontal wind-blocking surface. The system works well enough to prevent that buffeting sensation at speed. The folded roof takes up just 8.7 inches of vertical space, leaving 6.1 cubic feet of trunk capacity. With the roof closed, cargo space increases to 9.0 cubic feet, only about 0.6 cubic feet less than the Amalfi coupe.
