Giorgio Armani celebrates his 90th birthday in Milan with an Emporio Armani fashion show where the tie takes centre stage

In July, Giorgio Armani turned 90. The great Italian designer, known for being the one who raised the power suit to the maximum power in a female version when no one had dared to do so before, will celebrate his birthday in style months later, at the great show of his flagship, the firm that bears his name, in October in New York. However, the Italian did not want to be untrue to his Milan, and so he gave his all at the Emporio Armani spring-summer 2025 show. A catwalk that was a tribute to his career, his values and everything that the couturier has given to fashion. He explained on the firm's Instagram account: "The invitation for this show shows a model with a tie. It is a photo of my past, but it also represents the future. Once radical, today the look becomes a game. Times have changed and I am aware that I have contributed to that change with an outfit and more." As the brand details, Giorgio Armani's sense of time is both cyclical and linear: his understanding of the spirit of the moment aligns perfectly with his commitment to a style that remains consistent, changing so as not to change. The tie, originally worn by women as an elegant and provocative statement of gender equality, becomes a playful trend at Emporio. There is no shortage of shiny fabrics, bright colours, different suits, with short and double-breasted jackets, baggy trousers and oriental airs in the floral print fabrics. Very Armani, all in a high-profile celebration.
