From the International Space Station, French astronaut Sophie Adenot captured this beautiful image of Mount Etna: the whiteness of its slopes creates a lovely composition with the brilliant plume of smoke, reminding us that the volcano is not entirely dormant. The city of Catania--Sicily's second-most populous city--stretches placidly from the foot of the volcano to the Ionian Sea.
