The Finalissima between Argentina and Spain, champions of America and Europe, will take place, but not in Qatar, the country responsible for the event's financial investment. The conflict in Iran, affecting the entire Persian Gulf and various areas of the Mediterranean, has made holding the match at the Lusail Stadium impossible due to obvious security reasons. The match is scheduled for March 27, and the teams, date, and importance of the tournament will remain the same, but it will be held in another city. According to information obtained by EL MUNDO, there are high chances that the match will take place in Europe, ruling out the possibility of Miami.
UEFA, Conmebol, and the Qatari company are holding various meetings these days, and according to sources consulted by this newspaper, a definitive decision should be made "within 48 hours." This conversation is not only about the Finalissima but also about the six matches included in the 'Qatar Sports Festival', organized by the Arab country for the last days of March, which also includes the Spain-Egypt match scheduled for March 30 in Qatar, and other matches involving the national teams of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Serbia.
All of this will now be moved to another city because Qatar and the involved Federations refuse to lose all the financial investment made and the monetary return from the tournament. The Argentine national team was considering playing in Miami or New York, but in the discussions between UEFA, Qatar, and Conmebol, the only option being considered is to play in Europe, or at most, in a last-minute decision, a city like Rabat, in Morocco. This is due to ease of travel and security, considering that most Middle Eastern countries where events of this kind are usually held, such as Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, are affected by the Iran war.
Therefore, cities like London, Milan, or Rome, especially the first one, appear as the best options to host the Spain-Argentina match, accommodating the rest of the 'Qatar Sports Festival' matches in the same city or nearby cities, while keeping the scheduled dates. If it is London, it will not be Wembley, as on the same day, there is a friendly match between England and Uruguay.
The Argentine national team, which initially was not very keen on playing against Spain, has rejected the possibility of playing in Spanish territory. Madrid, which was actually an option, now seems to be moving away for that reason.
