In the heart of the Sierra de Francia, in the south of the province of Salamanca, there is a place that seems to be taken from a medieval tale. Its authenticity, history, and natural surroundings make it a perfect getaway to disconnect and travel back in time. We are referring to the village of Miranda del Castañar.

The cobbled streets and half-timbered houses welcome visitors to this small medieval village, which has only about 350 inhabitants. Belonging to the association The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, it stands out not only for its beauty but also for its excellent state of preservation.

The historic center of the municipality, which was declared a historic-artistic ensemble in 1973, maintains its medieval essence intact, something increasingly difficult to find. Walking through its streets is like travelling through centuries of history among ancient noble shields and balconies full of flowers.

One of its great symbols is the castle of Miranda del Castañar. "Its construction seems to date back to the 14th and 15th centuries on top of another ancient defense," they explain on the tourism portal of the Salamanca Provincial Council.

What makes Miranda del Castañar unique is its impressive walled enclosure, which is practically intact. Its walls, perfectly integrated into the urban layout, measure 600 meters and surround the historic center, allowing us to imagine what life was like in the Middle Ages.

Within this enclosure, in one of the corners of the square, is another treasure of the town: the Royal Prison. This small historic building, now converted into a visitable space, offers a very interesting insight into how justice worked in past times.

In recent years, Miranda del Castañar has also made a name for itself with the black truffle. It is a highly valued product that finds in the surroundings of the village an ideal environment for its cultivation. More and more visitors are attracted by gastronomic experiences related to this delicacy.

Among history, nature, and good food, this town in Castilla y León becomes a perfect getaway for those looking for more than just a tourist destination.
