Almost 20% of foreign tourists traveling to Spain come from the United Kingdom. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, in 2025, 19 million Britons visited the country. Most seek to visit the major cities or the most popular beach destinations, but there are other lesser-known destinations that are becoming trendy.

Among these less popular destinations that are becoming trendy among the British, there is a city that is quite underrated in Spain. We are referring to Castellón de la Plana. Located on the Mediterranean coast, it is a quiet and pleasant place that combines historical heritage, natural spaces, and proximity to the sea.

Its fame has grown so much in the United Kingdom that the Daily Mirror dedicates an article to it, saying that it is "like Barcelona, but without tourists". It is recommended for a March getaway due to its pleasant temperatures, beauty, and tranquility.

Ryanair operates three weekly flights from London to this city in the Valencian Community. Starting from June 1, there will also be flights from Manchester.

Although often overlooked compared to other better-known destinations, Castellón de la Plana offers very interesting spots to discover. One of the most emblematic points is the Concatedral de Santa María, located in the Main Square.

Its neo-Gothic style and its history, marked by reconstructions after the Spanish Civil War, make it a must-visit. "Inside, there is an 18th-century image of the Immaculate Conception, baroque images, several interesting canvases, as well as goldsmith pieces and other ornaments," point out from the tourism office of the city council.

Right next to it is El Fadrí, an independent bell tower from the 15th century that offers one of the most representative images of the city. It is 60 meters high and is of Valencian Gothic style.

For a stroll, nothing beats Parque Ribalta, the local green lung. Its tree-lined paths, ponds, and sculptures make it a perfect place to unwind. "It is named after the painter Francisco Ribalta, one of the most relevant painters of the 16th and 17th centuries, and has been providing beauty and freshness to the city since the second half of the 19th century," explain from Visit Comunitat Valenciana.

If you are interested in art, the Museum of Fine Arts of Castellón houses an interesting collection ranging from archaeology to contemporary painting. Also, you cannot leave without visiting Grao de Castellón, the maritime area. There you will find wide beaches like Pinar del Grao, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a good rice dish by the sea.
