The deployment, which lasted for over a month, aimed to protect critical infrastructure such as underwater cables and pipelines.
British Defence Secretary, John Healey, explained that the mission involved a frigate, military aircraft, and hundreds of personnel who continuously monitored, "24 hours a day", a Russian attack submarine and two spy submarines in waters north of the country.
Although no damages were detected, the operation highlighted the increasing tension in the area. According to the BBC, among the vessels involved was an Akula-class submarine and two units from the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research (GUGI), linked to submarine intelligence activities. British authorities emphasize the strategic importance of the seabed, through which 99% of global data traffic and a significant portion of energy supply flow.
Healey warned Russia that any sabotage attempt will have "serious consequences", reinforcing the deterrence message against potential threats.
