Nearly 20% of foreign tourists traveling to Spain come from the United Kingdom. Specifically, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, in 2025, 19 million British tourists visited the country.

Most seek to visit the major cities or the most popular beach destinations, but there is a growing trend towards lesser-known and quieter destinations. In this sense, there is a small coastal town that is captivating the British. In fact, the Daily Mirror has dedicated an article to it.

What is the small coastal town in Spain that captivates the British?

The town in question is Caleta de Famara. Also known simply as La Caleta, it belongs to the municipality of Teguise, on the Canary Island of Lanzarote. Traditionally linked to fishermen and surfers, it has started to attract the attention of the British looking to escape mass tourism.

The Daily Mirror highlights that it has "far fewer tourists" than other areas of Lanzarote, such as Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca, and enjoys pleasant temperatures of "23 degrees in April". Additionally, due to its location on the northwest coast of the island, it is "the perfect spot to admire the sunset painting the sky red".

What to see in Caleta de Famara

The small size of Caleta de Famara, with just over 1,000 inhabitants, is inversely proportional to its beauty. "Belonging to the Chinijo Natural Park, it is considered one of the most beautiful villages on the island thanks to its unpaved streets, its white houses, and its spectacular views over the Chinijo archipelago and the Risco de Famara," as described on the Canary Islands tourism portal.

The Risco de Famara is a mountainous massif perfect for mountain lovers, hiking, and trekking. Here you can find the Mirador del Río, from where you can admire practically the entire island of Lanzarote.

One of the main attractions of the town is the Playa de Famara, a several-kilometer-long beach where the Atlantic Ocean displays its wildest side. Due to the good wave conditions it offers, it is ideal for water sports such as surfing or kitesurfing.

Caleta de Famara also stands out for its gastronomy. It has several small restaurants where you can enjoy freshly cooked fish in the traditional style. Undoubtedly, this destination is a true paradise that British tourists could not resist.
