Kylian Mbappé was on the list of targets of the alleged leader of a French criminal gang planning to kidnap and rob wealthy individuals, as reported by the newspaper Le Parisien.
Clément L., an 18-year-old youth, was formally charged as the alleged ringleader of the organization, which is linked to a series of violent home invasions and kidnapping projects in French towns such as Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt, and Santenay. Following his arrest, the young man was incarcerated and placed in strict isolation, while his alleged accomplice was released under judicial supervision.
Clément already had a criminal record and was in pretrial detention for serious crimes including rape, pimping, and another case of organized robbery. Despite being behind bars at the Villepinte penitentiary, he continued to direct operations and give orders to his criminal network through the Snapchat application, under the alias of "Lester Z".
Prison guards seized two mobile phones from his cell. On them, investigators discovered a list of 26 addresses of high-income targets: in addition to the footballer Kylian Mbappé and a well-known rapper, there were singers, jewelers, entrepreneurs, a Chinese wholesaler, and a supposedly wealthy meat wholesaler. In his judicial statements, the young man admitted the seriousness of the events, although he tried to downplay his role by claiming he was only acting as an intermediary.
