Cate Blanchett has become a spoonful at the latest event held in Los Angeles for her movie 'Borderlands', which premieres in theaters on August 9. But it's not about hugs or sexual poses, nothing like that: the spooning that the actress has embraced is something completely different and comes through seams, like time.
Specifically, Cate Blanchett has showcased a stunning metallic top made with 102 antique spoons sourced from rural areas and fields in Sweden, pieces from old cutlery that are true relics and now have a new life as they are bent over the garment resembling large seashells.
The top is the work of Ellen Hodakova Larsson, a Swedish designer based in Stockholm who has become a reference in fashion recycling. Known as the master of upcycling, Hodakova has been creating absolutely innovative pieces for years from second-hand clothing and everyday items that she deconstructs and transforms, challenging conventions and reinventing them boldly in all kinds of garments. In her latest collections, jeans that turn into shirts, leather briefcases shaping dresses, or tweed caps turning into suggestive tops.
She has now delved deep into the kitchen for one of her most daring creations: dresses entirely made of spoons. They are part of her Spring-Summer 2024 collection, available on her website, and were presented weeks ago in Paris, where they were exhibited at Space 7X, in Dover Street Market. Months earlier, she had presented 30 pieces in a small gallery in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, during Paris Fashion Week.
The top that Cate Blanchett is wearing now is part of this collection. The actress joins the discourse that the creator has been advocating with her designs for years: her intention is to build a completely sustainable fashion house and change what this word means today.
Cate Blanchett has paired the top, a surprising and sophisticated halter-neck piece that leaves the back exposed, with a sober black tuxedo-style pants and medium-heeled pumps with XL tips. "Grandma would be proud!" says the actress's stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, the woman who also dresses some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Julia Roberts, Jessica Chastain, and Gal Gadot, names often seen on best-dressed lists on the red carpets alongside Blanchett.
