The British singer Chris Martin, leader of Coldplay, assures that his band will only release two more albums, reaching a total of 12, because he believes in the motto "less is more."
In an interview with New Zealand DJ Zane Lowe on his show The Zane Lowe Show, previewed this Monday by People magazine, the singer joked that many critics would wish their group released even fewer albums.
"We're only going to make 12 proper albums, and this is true," said the 47-year-old Martin.
For the singer, it is "really important" that Coldplay has this limit.
"There are only 12 and a half albums from The Beatles. There are approximately the same from Bob Marley, all our heroes. And having that limit also means that the quality control is very high right now, and for a song to surpass it is almost impossible, which is great," he said.
The singer specified that this does not mean they will stop making music.
"That will always continue in some way, but there's something about Coldplay. I don't know where the songs or ideas come from, but for about four or five years now, I've had this feeling of 'You have to finish like this,' and I trust that just as I trust the songs," he added.
If the group does something creatively beyond that, aside from tours, "it will be something different or parallel or a compilation of things we hadn't finished," he stated.
Martin added that the group continues to have fun both on the road and in the studio, attributing it to a multitude of reasons: "Getting older, COVID, everything happening in the world, how lucky we know we are, the places we get to go, the optimism we get from seeing all kinds of people come together, songs that come out of nowhere, and going at a slower pace."
Coldplay is currently on their worldwide tour 'Music of the Spheres', which will end in September 2025 in London, and has performances scheduled in the coming months in Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, India, Hong Kong, and South Korea.
The band was formed in 1997, and their first album was 'Parachutes,' released three years later. Their latest studio album, 'Music of the Spheres,' which gives its name to their current tour, was released in October 2021.
