His passion for music brought Dermot Mulroney and Prima Apollinaare together in 2008, a year after the star of My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) had divorced actress Catherine Keener (66), with whom he had a son named Clyde (26).
The British actor and the Italian singer-songwriter got married in 2010 after having two daughters, Mabel Ray (17) and Sally (16). But now, as reported by English and American media, the couple has filed for divorce amicably citing irreconcilable differences.
According to today.com, on June 21, the actor filed for dissolution of marriage in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The separation date was not disclosed in the filing, simply noted as "to be determined." They have opted for mediators and no lawyers because, above all, they remain very good friends.
Apparently, there are several points to consider in the proceedings, including the unusual request by Dermot for spousal support while requesting not to be awarded to her. It is certain that they will split attorney fees and share physical and legal custody of their daughters. According to People, "all common earnings and accumulations during the marriage up to the separation date will be considered community property.
Currently, the couple shares the same mailing address in Sherman Oaks, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley (California) where they have enjoyed desired tranquility.
Both Dermot and Prima have tried to avoid Hollywood parties to prevent continuous public exposure for the sake of their daughters. As an anecdote, in February 2024, the couple was reportedly happy after performing a duet of Islands in the Stream on Fox's We Are Family.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), Apollinaare mentioned that "we both like to go to karaoke together and are passionate about music. In fact, it was an incredible experience for me to appear on TV and sing. Of course, my husband plays music all the time at home. We all play instruments like harps, guitars, ukuleles, pianos... everything." Mulroney is actually an accomplished cellist.
Since last year, Dermot Mulroney has been one of the new main cast members on the series Chicago Fire and this 2025 he has joined Chicago P.D.
