Brad Pitt's mother, Jane Etta Pitt (61), has passed away at the age of 84. The cause of her death is currently unknown, but the news was shared through the Instagram account of one of her granddaughters, Sydney Pitt, daughter of Doug (58), the actor's younger brother. So far, the star has not spoken to the press, and the media have only shared the statement.
"My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to leave yet, but knowing that you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a little easier," wrote Sydney Pitt on her Instagram account. "If you knew grandma, you knew she had the biggest heart. She deeply cared about everyone and everything, without asking questions," the message continued, shared alongside several family photos featuring the grandmother.
She also took the opportunity to highlight her charitable nature and deep Christian faith. "She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, love Jesus through everything, and find joy in the smallest things. She invented the silliest games just to make us laugh, and believed in justice, putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do," she explained.
During her youth, Jane Etta Pitt worked as a secretary at a school in Oklahoma. She lived in the city of Springfield with her husband, William Alvin Pitt, who owned a truck manufacturing company. In this quiet residential town, they decided to settle down and start their family. Both were very Christian and tried to instill their values and beliefs in their three children, Brad, Doug, and Julie Neal Pitt (56).
Brad Pitt inherited his mother's charitable side, although not her conservative ideas. Despite the actor's admiration for his mother, they did not share political ideals. While she criticized same-sex marriage, abortion, and the policies of Barack Obama, the actor supported (and supports) these causes and the Democratic Party.
Doug, Brad Pitt's lesser-known brother: a millionaire, married to his college girlfriend, and more charitable than the actor
But on the most important matters, they agreed. When in 2009 Brad Pitt and his brothers donated one million dollars to a hospital in Missouri, they named a new wing of the hospital after their mother, the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center, which became the first specialized pediatric oncology center in the state.
Sydney Pitt concluded the statement by highlighting her grandmother's energy: "She could keep up with the 14 grandchildren without missing a beat." She also spoke of the love she gave, not only to her family but also to those in need.
