Acclaimed as the best actor in the world, Daniel Day-Lewis (68) decided one day in 2017 that he was retiring from acting after portraying Phantom Thread. In a statement, he claimed it was a "private decision," but the three-time Oscar winner for My Left Foot (1989), There Will Be Blood (2007), and Lincoln (2012) for Best Actor couldn't resist.

After eight years, it was too tempting for him not to be in front of the camera, especially with the debut as a director of his son Ronan Cal (27) with Anemone, which he co-wrote the script with his legendary father. The film premiered in the United States on October 10th.

Ronan, born in June 1988 in Ireland, is also the son of actress and filmmaker Rebecca Miller (63), who descends from one of the greatest authors in 20th-century literature, Arthur Miller. Among her most prestigious works are Death of a Salesman (1949) and The Crucible (1953), and in the '60s, she attracted tabloid attention by becoming Marilyn Monroe's third and final husband.

The young filmmaker is the eldest son of the marriage who has another son, Cashel Blake (25). Daniel, on the other hand, has another son from his relationship with Isabelle Adjani (70) named Gabriel-Kane (30).

Much of Ronan's childhood was spent in County Wicklow, Ireland, where his parents own a Victorian house located on a 40-hectare property near the village of Annamoe. The actor found the area to be the perfect place to enjoy anonymity and solitude. Since becoming known, Daniel Day-Lewis became obsessed with being away from the public eye.

As his parents have mentioned on occasion, Ronan showed his artistic talent at the age of two when he began drawing motorcycles almost obsessively, as his father loves to ride them. A few years later, he began to develop his art on a large scale. "I started painting when I was around 11 years old, but then I also started making movies, small films in the backyard. I was a little kid, always trying to corral people into participating. I didn't really take it seriously until eighth grade, when a film teacher just lit a fire in me. I started to realize that this was something I could do. I looked at my mother's work as a filmmaker and realized that people do this as a career," the young man told Deadline.

Although some label him as a nepo baby, the truth is that Ronan has diligently trained to be a multidisciplinary artist. He studied in Ireland until he was 13, away from the gossip of Hollywood. Once the family settled in New York, Ronan started high school and graduated from the Yale School of Art, where he met his girlfriend, Lena Christakis, with whom he has collaborated on several occasions.

In 2020, the young man posted a series of photographs with his partner on his Instagram where he wrote the caption: "Two years with the love of my life." From the very beginning, Lena seamlessly integrated into the life of the Day-Lewis-Miller family, even appearing on the red carpet with her boyfriend at the premiere of Came to Me (2023), a film directed by Rebecca Miller.

The filmmaker's eldest son and the Hollywood star usually work with oil pastel on raw canvas to create a personal style he has dubbed romantic punk. His first solo exhibition was at the D.D.D.D. gallery in New York, and his first international solo exhibition was at the Woaw gallery in Hong Kong. Additionally, he also works as a sculptor.
