The tragic event is being investigated by the Police as an apparent homicide. Reiner, 78, was a director and producer, and his wife was 68 years old.

The news was confirmed by a family spokesperson in a statement, expressing "deep sorrow" and distress over the "sudden loss." The family has also requested privacy "during this incredibly difficult time."

The Los Angeles Fire Department received a medical emergency call on the 200 block of South Chadbourd Avenue just before 3:38 p.m. (local time). Upon arrival at the residence, the director, producer, and his wife were found dead.

The Robbery and Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department is leading the investigation, focusing on determining if it is a homicide, as stated by a spokesperson to Vanity Fair magazine. Despite the seriousness of the discovery, the Deputy Chief of the police force, Alan Hamilton, stated in a press conference that so far, "we are not looking for anyone as a suspect in any way." Hamilton added that investigators will try to speak "with all the family members we can to get to the facts of this investigation."

Reiner, born in 1947 in the Bronx, New York, rose to fame in the 1970s. Throughout his career, he directed very popular films such as "When Harry Met Sally" and "The Princess Bride." In addition to his directing work, he was nominated for an Oscar for producing "A Few Good Men."
