The actress starring in 'When Harry Met Sally' and icon of 80s and 90s cinema Meg Ryan has spoken out on social media following the death of the film's director, Rob Reiner, and his wife, allegedly at the hands of their son.

"Oh, how much we will miss this man..." begins the interpreter of 'The Miracle Worker' and 'French Kiss', among other titles.

"Thank you, Rob and Michelle, for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best of people and for your deep love for our country," Ryan continues.

"I want to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that something good can come out of it, that awareness can be raised... I don't know, but I believe they would want that to be hopeful and human, to lead us all to a greater mutual understanding and some peace," she concludes.

Both died from "multiple sharp force injuries", according to the Los Angeles County coroner's report.

The autopsy determined that the cause of death of the couple, who were found dead in their home in the affluent Brentwood neighborhood, was "homicide," suggesting that their deaths were caused by a third party.

The couple passed away last Sunday, the same day their bodies were discovered after a call to authorities from one of their daughters, according to records.

The family's middle son, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, was arrested hours after his parents' death as the main suspect in the murder of his parents and appeared in court in Los Angeles on Wednesday for his initial appearance.

He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder that could result in a life sentence without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, as reported by the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

The motives that may have led him to commit the alleged crime are currently unknown, although acquaintances claim that there was a family argument at a Christmas party on Saturday night at comedian Conan O'Brien's house.
