In reality, the announcement reveals very little. It lasts just a minute and the absolute protagonist is Brad Pitt, but it omits even the title. That, and dozens of images, which are crudely censored with white pen scratches. Netflix released on Sunday the first trailer for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by Quentin Tarantino, during the Super Bowl commercials, the world's most-watched sports event. However, it will not be Tarantino who continues the film, but David Fincher with Netflix.
In this brief preview, Brad Pitt once again embodies the stunt double Cliff Booth in old Hollywood, but a year after the events depicted in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He is seen relaxing in a bar, walking backstage on a film set, and behind the wheel of a race car on a dirt track. The characters of Elizabeth Debicki and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II return, but there is no sign of Leonardo DiCaprio.
However, the most curious aspect of the images released by Netflix, which do not even announce the release date of a movie expected to hit theaters sometime this year, is the censorship. Naked women, cigarettes, obscene gestures, weapons, and swear words are crudely crossed out with a white scratch. There are also nods: at one point in the teaser, Cliff Booth places an Oscar on his desk, in reference to the first Oscar that Brad Pitt won for the first part of the story.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth will be the most expensive film by Tarantino and Fincher, as the former revealed it has a budget of around 200 million dollars.
