One must go back to the late 80s to enjoy the first big hit of Glenn Medeiros (55), titled Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You (1987), with which he reached number 1 in the UK and Canada and was among the top positions in Spain. He was only 17 years old

The boom in our country was such that teenage girls covered their folders with stickers of his face that were sold by the magazines.

That young man with curly hair and a sensual voice who sang such romantic ballads became a mass phenomenon. Now, 40 years later, it has been his daughter Lyric (24) who has brought back the figure of her father to past and present fans with the videos she posts on TikTok starring both of them singing his famous song, traveling, playing the guitar, as a family...

Glenn Medeiros was born in Hawaii, into a modest, very Catholic family that prioritized love over material things. It could be said that the singer's birth was a miracle, as his mother had a serious accident during her pregnancy that almost prevented Glenn from being born.

The artist stood out not only for being a good student, but also because he was a rather reserved and shy teenager who expressed himself much better through singing. In fact, at just 16 years old, he won a local talent show called Brown Bags to Stardom. A few months later, he became an international celebrity with Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You.

In the mid-90s, Medeiros left his music career and later revealed that some of the reasons for doing so were the rampant drug abuse he witnessed and the fact that he was often asked for sexual favors by male figures in the music industry in exchange for help with his career.

His next big success was a duet with Bobby Brown on the song She Ain't Worth It (1990), which gave him his first number one in the United States.

In 1996, Glenn married teacher Tammy Armstrong, with whom he has two children, Chord Kaleohone (25) and Lyric Leolani, who besides succeeding on TikTok with her father, appeared in 2023 on season 21 of American Idol.

The birth of his children partly motivated him to retire from music.

Therefore, he left the stage and resumed his student role by enrolling at Leeward Community College, later transferring to the University of Hawaii-West O'ahu and the University of Phoenix, where he graduated in elementary education in 2003.

In one of his recent interviews, he recalled that at that point in his life "and, after all those experiences, I think I was more prepared for college, much more prepared than I would have been at 19. I wasn't necessarily a star student in high school, but I took my studies very seriously when I got to Leeward. The program was very personalized and helped me develop my interests, so that when I got to UH West O'ahu, I was better prepared."

He started working as an educator and gradually climbed the educational hierarchy. In 2014, he earned his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern California, allowing him to have been the director of the prestigious all-boys private school Saint Louis School in Honolulu Oahu, in his native Hawaii, for the past nine years. This is a life he detailed in his biography From One Stage to Another: Lessons Learned in Music, Education, and Leadership released at the end of last year.
