Actor James Van Der Beek, unforgettable star of the teen series Dawson's Creek, passed away this Wednesday at the age of 48, due to stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosed in August 2023. A sad news that the family revealed through a post on the actor's Instagram profile:

"Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He faced his last days with courage, faith, and serenity," reads the post alongside a photo of the actor, where the family also asks for "privacy and tranquility" to mourn "the loss of our dear husband, father, son, brother, and friend."

In addition to this sad farewell, on his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek's social media, the link to a GoFundMe page has also been shared to raise funds for the family facing a complicated financial situation after the actor's passing.

"James Van Der Beek was a beloved husband, father, and friend who touched the lives of everyone around him. After a long and brave battle against cancer, James passed away on February 11, 2026, leaving behind his devoted wife, Kimberly, and his six wonderful children. During his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial pressure as they did everything possible to support and care for James. Following this loss, Kimberly and her children face an uncertain future," reads the statement accompanying the plea.

"The medical expenses for James's care and the prolonged cancer battle have left the family without resources. They are working hard to stay at home and ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this very difficult time. The support of friends, family, and the community at large will make a big difference in the road ahead. Your generosity will help cover basic expenses, pay bills, and support the children's education. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help Kimberly and her family find hope and security as they rebuild their lives. Thank you for considering a donation to support them."

In the first hours after the campaign was launched, over 22,000 people had already donated small or large amounts of money, raising a total of over one million dollars.

The high cost of the cancer treatment he was undergoing led the actor to sell, last November, part of the wardrobe, accessories, and props from the set of Dawson's Creek, the series that brought him fame, as well as items he still owned from the 1999 film Varsity Blues starring Van Der Beek.

Among the pieces auctioned was the iconic necklace that Dawson (Van Der Beek) gave to Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) before the prom. A piece whose starting value was between 22,000 and 55,000 euros. All proceeds went towards funding the actor's treatment.
