Support for social causes is one of the most distinctive traits of the legendary singer, who has also instilled it in his three children, musician Evan James (35), Olympic equestrian Jessica Rae (34), and Samuel Ryan (32), born from his second marriage to singer Patti Scialfa (72), with whom he will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary next June.
Although his three offspring, whom he has raised away from the spotlight and paparazzi, are his greatest satisfaction, Springsteen feels a special pride in the youngest. In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, young Samuel, who was 7 years old at the time, decided he wanted to save lives.
As he grew up, his interest focused on becoming a firefighter, so in 2014, at 20 years old, he graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy and three years later, passed the civil service exam.
Meanwhile, the young man volunteered at three different stations, including Colts Neck, in New Jersey, where his family owns a 120-acre farm where Jessica Rae learned to ride horses.
Finally, in August 2019, Sam joined the Jersey City Fire Department.
One of the happiest moments was when Samuel took his oath of office in early 2020 at City Hall. "Congratulations... You followed your dreams... JC Firefighter... Stay safe and love your brave heart," wrote his father, Bruce Springsteen, on his social media. To journalists, the E Street Band leader said, "Sam can stand on his own."
And it was precisely Sam, the youngest of the singer's three children, who made them first-time grandparents in 2022 with the birth of Lily Harper, named after her mother.
