The Caribbean music scene is on edge following the disappearance of Cartagena DJ Deverson José Ríos Caicedo, artistically known as DJ Denver or DJ Dever, who has not been heard from since the night of February 10. The artist had attended a private event at Playa Mendoza, in the department of Atlántico, and was last seen after sending a message to his wife stating that the atmosphere seemed "suspicious" to him. Shortly after, his phone stopped responding, and his whereabouts have been unknown since then.
Some media outlets report that several witnesses claim to have seen Ríos Caicedo gagged with a group of armed men, although there is no official confirmation of a kidnapping by the authorities.
According to Colombian authorities, the van in which he was traveling was located in the La Paz sector of Barranquilla, without visible signs of violence, a discovery that has increased uncertainty about what happened. Along with the DJ, two collaborators from his team are also missing, while the dancers participating in the same event have been located and are safe.
The Police are pursuing several lines of investigation and, at the moment, are not ruling out any hypothesis, including possible illegal detention. The artist's family has shared messages of distress on social media, asking for help to obtain any information that could lead to finding him.
The disappearance has sparked a strong reaction in the music scene. Singer Kevin Flórez, among other urban genre and champeta artists, has made a public appeal for his prompt appearance, appealing to solidarity for the DJ's safe return.
Authorities in Cartagena and Atlántico are working together to clarify what happened, in a case that remains under investigation and keeps both the artist's circle and his followers on alert.
