Bruce Campbell, a 67-year-old actor known worldwide for his role as Ash Williams in the Evil Dead saga (The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness), has publicly announced that he has been diagnosed with a type of cancer that is "treatable but not curable".
Campbell shared the news on his social media, stating that it was a shock to him and that he prefers transparency with his fans to avoid rumors. He mentioned that although he has not disclosed the exact type of cancer yet, he is preparing for treatment and that this will affect his professional commitments in the short term, including conventions and public appearances scheduled for the summer.
The actor, who also worked on the television series (reviving his iconic character - chainsaw and car, of course-) Ash vs Evil Dead and in numerous cult films and television series, expressed his gratitude to his followers and assured that he is facing the situation with his characteristic positive spirit, describing himself as "a tough guy" with strong support around him.
Due to the focus on treatment, he has canceled fan events and conventions appearances during the summer, although he hopes to resume promoting his upcoming movie Ernie & Emma in the fall.
The news has generated enormous support from his fans on social media, many of them using iconic phrases from his movies to show encouragement and affection, such as "Hail to the king, baby! You need us strong and we are with you, Ash".
Bruce Campbell's career is closely linked to cult director Sam Raimi, the mastermind behind the entire demonic universe of Evil Dead and the director of the three Spiderman movies starring Tobey Maguire - in which Campbell made memorable cameos, in the purest Stan Lee style-.
