As it has become a tradition, the night before the MET Gala celebration, Anna Wintour invites only a few chosen ones who will attend the event to dine at her New York residence.
The fashion editor is a perfect hostess and, just like in previous decades with Babe Paley or Brooke Astor, receiving one of her invitations implies being part of the who's who in social circles. Although the natural meaning of this concept has evolved into something more vulgar.
Wintour's townhouse is not the most splendid in the city, but it serves its purpose. According to real estate agencies in the city, the property consists of around 370 square meters spread over five floors (one of them being a basement with a laundry room). It has five bathrooms, four bedrooms, an office, a living room, and a kitchen.
Located in Greenwich Village, specifically in the MacDougal-Sullivan Gardens Historic District, the property was built in 1899 in Greek neoclassical style. Furthermore, the entire block was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, increasing its market value.
The most impressive aspect of the area is that Wintour's house is part of a residential complex with 22 houses arranged in two rows along MacDougal and Sullivan Streets, sharing a bucolic private garden where one can enjoy the desired tranquility away from the noisy city. Its appeal is such that other celebrities have also lived in the area, such as Bob Dylan,Richard Gere, or Baz Luhrmann, a close friend of Anna.
Bee Carrozzini (38), the fashion editor's daughter with her ex-husband, child psychiatrist David Shaffer, spoke in a magazine about her childhood in this magical place. "You could cross the garden to your friends' house in such a, such a rare way in New York." The fashion diva has another son, Charles (41).
On very rare occasions, Anna Wintour has allowed cameras into her home, so there is scarce information about the interior design. One can get a better idea by checking out her three dogs' Instagram, Scout, Radley, Harper, and Finch, as they are seen posing in a room with striking color contrasts, with yellow walls and a large red carpet on the floor. Additionally, there is a double bookcase.
Likewise, in another snapshot, it can be seen that in the same room, there is a white fireplace with a mantel displaying a series of hand-painted vases and an immense mirror hanging on the wall. To the right, a colorful three-seater sofa stands out with a small table and an armchair.
According to records, Anna purchased the townhouse in 1992 for 1.4 million dollars and, according to industry agencies, it would now be put on the market for around 11.5 million.
Among the different celebrities who attended this year's private dinner, Nicole Kidman,Kris Jenner,Sabrina Carpenter,Donatella Versace, and, of course, the hosts, Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos, who sponsored the MET Gala with 10 million dollars, although some experts claim it was 20 million.
