Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, daughter of actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has filed a request with a Los Angeles court to officially change her name and remove the Pitt surname. According to court documents obtained by the magazine PEOPLE, the 18-year-old has requested her legal name to be Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, leaving behind the compound surname she has used since birth. In the filed documentation, the reason for the change is simply described as "personal."
The request will be reviewed at a hearing scheduled for November 2, according to court records cited by PEOPLE.
This move indicates that Vivienne has chosen to publicly identify with her mother's surname. As early as 2024, when she worked as a producer alongside Angelina Jolie on the Broadway adaptation of The Outsiders, she was credited in the official program as Vivienne Jolie.
Vivienne is not the first daughter of the former couple to seek a name change. Her siblings have also initiated similar processes to stop using Pitt. Zahara has requested to be called Zahara Marley Jolie, while Maddox seeks to change his name to Maddox Chivan Jolie. Additionally, Shiloh filed a petition in 2024 to remove Pitt from her legal name, a change that was approved in August of the same year.
A source close to Brad Pitt previously told the magazine that the actor considered it "sad" that these name changes were made public and stated that they reflected a distancing of his children from him.
Vivienne, born in July 2008 along with her twin brother Knox, is the youngest of the six children shared by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The couple are also parents to Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh.
