Sunny, the Portuguese water dog of the Obama family, has passed away at 13 years old, as announced on Wednesday by former President Barack Obama. The dog, who died on Tuesday, entered their lives in 2013 during their time at the White House, following the famous advice of Harry S. Truman: "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog."
Through his social media, Obama wanted to bid a final farewell to his companion of the last 13 years: "Yesterday we lost a very beloved member of our family. Sunny was a force of nature, athletic and full of energy. She loved our daughters, even when they bothered her while she napped. She preferred people over dogs, drank water noisily and uncontrollably, and despite her breed, hated getting wet. But for our family, she was practically perfect. She was always loyal, affectionate, lively, and beautiful. We will miss her very much," the statement reads.
Although numerous U.S. presidents have had dogs as pets, Donald Trump did not have any pets during his time in the White House.
