Although 'Charlie's Angels' (1976-1981) did not reach our country until 1978, the truth is that the first episode of the decade's sexiest detectives aired in the United States on September 22, 1976.
On the occasion of the series' 50th anniversary, in recent months the three most popular surviving angels, Jaclyn Smith (Kelly Garrett), Kate Hudson (Sabrina Duncan), and Cheryl Ladd (Kris Munroe), have given interviews and attended important events, the latest being the Emmy Awards gala. In most of their appearances, they have had sweet and praising words for their great friend, Farrah Fawcett (Jill Munroe) who passed away from cancer in 2009. She was the only one who reached the status of a super sex symbol, and her poster wearing a red swimsuit with her best smile remains the best-selling of all time.
However, it has caught the attention of the person writing these lines that among their numerous interviews and at least in the clips on social media, they do not mention either Tanya Roberts (Julie Roberts, who replaced Tiffany) - who passed away in 2021 - or Shelley Hack, who replaced Kate in the fourth season portraying Tiffany Welles, who rebelled against Sabrina.
At 79 years old, Shelley is still remembered as one of the most stylish, elegant, and friendly actresses on both the small and big screen. Her great physical attractiveness paved her way as a model, making her one of the most well-known globally by the late seventies, as she curiously was the face of Revlon's Charlie perfume.
This caught the attention of producer Aaron Spelling and his partner, who wanted her to audition for one of the angels' roles. She was eventually hired. As she recalled in an interview for the Corpus Christi Times, "I walked into Aaron's office. You think of Charlie's Angels and imagine champagne, caviar, right? Everyone sitting around drinking Coca-Cola, eating potato chips and sandwiches. They gave me the news, and I immediately called my mother in Connecticut."
Shelley already had acting experience because she made her debut in the movie under Woody Allen's direction in 'Annie Hall' (1978). Although she only appeared in 26 episodes of the fourth season - as a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that for the French, she, Jaclyn, and Cheryl were the original angels - the fame she achieved surpassed her expectations. Not in a negative sense, but because she did not expect it.
While filming Charlie's Angels, she married Harry Winer - a film director and university professor - with whom she has a daughter, Devon Rose (36). Besides starting a family, the Winer-Hack duo are also partners at Smash Media, a production company that creates content for film and television, with some of their best-known products being Hallmark Channel movies.
Additionally, in 1997, she founded the consultancy Shelley Hack Media Consultancy, whose activities expanded internationally to projects in television, film, and related media in developing countries. Moreover, she collaborated for two years with the largest media conglomerate in Eastern Europe, helping to develop and build the most modern film studio complex in the region.
To enhance her work, she earned a Master's in Business Administration from the New York Institute of Technology.
