Footage from the operation shows New York Police Department officers handcuffing the 'Thelma and Louise' star during the demonstration, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace. Actress Hannah Einbinder, known for the series "Hacks," was also reportedly arrested during the protest.
According to a spokesperson for the NYPD, officers responded to reports of an "unplanned demonstration" where several participants were blocking an intersection. Authorities asked the protesters to leave the area and proceeded to arrest those who did not comply.
Jewish Voice for Peace stated that over 100 people were arrested and claimed that around 400 participated in a sit-in in front of the UN to demand an end to the war in Gaza and the U.S. military funding to Israel.
Sarandon has taken part in various protests against the Israeli offensive in Gaza and has publicly acknowledged that her political stances have had professional consequences.
The protest coincided with Netanyahu's speech at the UN, during which numerous representatives left the room. "If there are any other moral cowards who have not yet left this room, do so now," stated the Israeli Prime Minister.
