They met in a café when Kyra Sedgwick, 12 years old at the time, congratulated Kevin Bacon, 19, for his performance in an Off-Broadway play in New York City. A decade later, they starred in Lemon Sky (1987) and the romance blossomed. The actors got married on September 4, 1988, and a month ago they declared their love on Instagram on the occasion of their 38 years of happy union.
"People ask me how we keep the excitement after so many years together... You have to be open to trying new things! Happy anniversary, @kyrasedgwickofficial," wrote the star of Footloose on Instagram for their anniversary.
As one of the most solid couples in the industry, the Bacons have steered clear of the toxic Hollywood scene and have been living in New York with their two children, Travis (37) and Sosie (34) for decades.
The couple and their eldest son have enjoyed our country in recent days, as besides presenting the movie Family movie, in which their daughter also acts, Kevin and Kyra have been honored with the Grand Honorary Prize at the Sitges Film Festival.
Kyra has admitted in several interviews that "one of the most important things to keep the family together is doing activities together because, in this way, things are built. They are great bonding experiences. It's not necessary to make movies." But in this family's case, that's what they constantly do, although the couple has never encouraged their offspring to follow in their footsteps.
"In fact, my son boasts of not having seen many of my films," adds Bacon. Nevertheless, Travis and Sosie are involved in the entertainment industry. In his case, he mainly focuses on music, as he is the vocalist of the industrial metal band Contracult Collective and also the guitarist in Black Anvil, a black metal group.
What is most surprising in his case is that at the beginning of last May, he drew attention on his Instagram regarding his work situation. "I don't have representation and I have never had it throughout my career. That means: no manager, no agent, no record label, no publishing contract; just me. Although I am confident and hopeful that this will change over time, I have not yet found the right option." And he added: "So, if you are interested in working with me as a composer for film/television, music producer, and/or actor, contact me directly through my website. Thank you."
In music, he debuted with the album The Last Goodbye (2015) and in cinema, he did so in 2005 with Loverboy, directed by his father and also starring his parents. Academically, he has a degree in sound engineering from Evergreen State College, which has allowed him to create soundtracks.
Since his early childhood, Travis has always been a child who liked to learn things on his own, which is why he refused to let his father teach him how to swim and ride a bike. For the past six years, he has shared his life with Angelina Sambrotto, an artist specializing in special effects and burlesque dancer who always attracts attention on the red carpets for her gothic style. For now, the couple has no intention of having children, although they would love to in the not too distant future.
Like her brother, Sosie's film debut was in Loverboy at the age of 11. She enrolled at the exclusive Brown University, but after two years studying theater and musical theater, she decided to leave to join Collaborative Arts Project 21, an Off-Broadway theater company and a conservatory for training in musical theater.
Due to her determination to become an actress, her mother spoke nearly a decade ago to Good Housekeeping about her fear of rejection since "Kevin and I have had painful experiences, and you don't want your child to go through that. But I want her to follow her passion, and acting has become her passion."
In 2022, she landed her first leading role in Smile, which Kevin was thrilled about her achievement. In statements to People magazine, he highlighted that "knowing how hard she had worked and how good she was, when I saw the movie, I was truly amazed. Not only because of how good she was, but also because of how challenging the role was, as it's one of those roles with no rest."
On television, she has had recurring roles in Scream (2015-2016), 13 Reasons Why (2017-2018), and Narcos: Mexico (2020). Her first opportunity as a lead was in Here and Now (2018). During the filming of Narcos, she met her boyfriend, also actor Scoot McNairy (48), with whom she also does not have children. However, he has two from a previous marriage to actress Whitney Able, who adore Sosie because she actively participates in their upbringing.
