Six years ago, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, David Corenswet (31) mentioned that one of his biggest dreams would be to portray Superman in the movies. Those desires have become reality as the new version of the man of steel premieres on July 11.
Born in Philadelphia into a family with a Jewish tradition, David loved watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals and the Marx Brothers comedies with his parents when he was young. As he mentioned in MTV News, "we grew up watching movies of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn, and Singing in the Rain dozens of times. We liked comedies. That's all we watched. We didn't have cable TV, we weren't allowed to watch TV, but we could watch those movies as many times as we wanted."
He has also been a fan ofStar Wars. At one point, he mentioned, "I spent a lot of time alone in my basement pretending to be a Jedi. That really drew me in." After graduating with a degree in Fine Arts in Theater from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York, his first significant role was in the series The Politician (2019-2020) created by Ryan Murphy, who later cast him in the miniseries Hollywood (2020).
His parents are lawyers, and his maternal grandfather, Edward Packard, was the creator of theChoose Your Own Adventurebook series that was very popular in our country in the 1980s. In various interviews, David has always stuck to his rule of not talking about his private life, although it is known that he met his wife, actress and producer Julia Best Warner, when they were teenagers in a summer theater program in Pennsylvania.
They got married in March 2023. The celebration took place at the Immaculate Conception Church in New Orleans with both Catholic and Jewish rites, officiated by a priest and a rabbi. Their daughter was born in 2024, but they decided to keep her name a secret.
One of the few things he has shared about his personal life is from an interview with People where he confessed, "I feel like I've been a father for a long time and was just waiting for a child to prove it. My father was an enthusiastic father and stayed home with my sister for a while when she was very young. He was great with kids. So, I think I just inherited that. I enjoyed being a camp counselor and have terrible jokes that no one finds funny."
In his free time, he loves being a handyman to fix things around his home, which is why he continues to learn about electricity and plumbing. One of his great passions is flying, so he enjoys his home flight simulator. Additionally, he adores dogs. The family has a Cavalier King Charles spaniel named Ira who has accompanied David during parts of the Superman filming, and they even dressed him up as the hero for some promotional photos.
