The renowned Ibiza Rocks Hotel, an international reference for live music in the Balearic Islands, has announced the cancellation of all its concerts and DJ sessions scheduled. This drastic decision comes after the death of two young British individuals under similar circumstances within its premises, an incident that has shocked the tourism and music sector in Ibiza. The official programming was scheduled to start this week, between July 23 and 30.
Ibiza Rocks management has issued an official statement expressing their dismay: "Our priority is to support the affected individuals and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities in their investigations. The safety and well-being of our guests has been, and will always be, our top priority," they conclude.
Early Sunday morning, Gary Kelly, a promising 19-year-old ice hockey star from Scotland, died after falling from the third floor of the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio. The young athlete, hailing from Dundee and known in the sports world for his time with teams like Dundee Stars, Aberdeen Lynx, and Whitley Warriors, suffered the fatal accident inside the hotel complex
Emergency services were alerted after midnight, and although two ambulances arrived at the scene, SAMU 061 paramedics found the player with multiple injuries and in a critical condition. Despite cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts, the death was confirmed at the hotel.
The news has shaken the ice hockey community. Gary Kelly's family expressed their immense grief in a heartbreaking statement: "Our hearts are shattered beyond words. I have no words. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as a family as we try to cope with this tragic news. You will always be our son, Gary. Rest in peace."
Meanwhile, the Dundee Stars club also deeply mourned the loss: "Everyone at the club, including players, staff, management, and owners, is devastated by this tragic news. Gary was an immensely talented and charismatic person with a bright future ahead. His loss will impact many in the ice hockey community and beyond. We will miss him greatly. We respect and support the family's request for privacy during this very difficult time."
