British artist Morrissey has canceled two concerts in the United States after receiving a death threat before a show in Ottawa, Canada, as reported by the BBC.

A 26-year-old man from Ottawa has been released on bail after making a death threat against the singer before his performance at a festival last week.

The event took place as planned, but later the former leader of The Smiths canceled two concerts in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

The singer is known for openly expressing his views on topics such as animal welfare and politics. In 2006, he refused to tour Canada in protest against the annual seal hunt.

Following the death threat in Ottawa last week, he canceled the Friday concert in Connecticut and another in Boston.

"In recent days, there has been a credible threat against Morrissey's life," a statement from the Boston venue posted on Instagram.

"Out of extreme caution, and to ensure the safety of both the artist and the band, the commitment for tomorrow at the MGM Music Hall in Fenway has been canceled."
