Updated

Twenty years after stepping in front of the camera, Rick Moranis (72) has started filming the sequel to one of his big 80s hits, Spaceballs (1987). And he does it with part of the original cast including Daphne Zuniga (62), Bill Pullman (71), and Mel Brooks, who continues tirelessly at 99 years old

It was this science fiction comedy that brought the actor out of retirement after three decades following the death of his wife in 1991, actress Ann Belski, due to breast cancer. With her, he had twins, Mitchell (37) and Rachel (37). His disillusionment with Hollywood also influenced his decision. His last film was The Flintstones (1994).

A few years ago, he told The Hollywood Reporter that at that time he was very comfortable working because he did it with wonderful and interesting people, but "I went from that to being at home with a couple of young children, which is a very different lifestyle. But it was important to me. I don't regret it at all. My life is wonderful."

In this way, Moranis left the blockbusters of the 80s and 90s for a fulfilling personal life. For the actor, Anne was his everything, the love of his life. Unlike many other stars who prioritize fame and can't live without the spotlight, the actor chose authentic happiness. In 2005, he told USA Today:"I'm a single parent and I realized that it was too difficult to balance raising my children with the traveling involved in filming movies."

Rick Moranis had the opportunity to return for the third installment of Ghostbusters in 2016, but he rejected it.

The Canadian actor met his wife in the early 80s when both were trying to make their way in competitive Hollywood. In the hustle and bustle of auditions and attending various events, Rick and Ann started to meet frequently and what began as a friendship ended in a romantic relationship. They finally married in a private ceremony in 1986.

Two years earlier, the actor had achieved international fame with Ghostbusters. Before pursuing acting, Rick worked in the early 70s as a radio disc jockey under the name Rick Allan and later appeared in the Canadian parody Hockey Night in Canada, where he gained great recognition nationally in his home country.

When he participated in Second City Television in 1980, impersonating Merv Griffin, Woody Allen, or George Carlin, his name started to resonate even more in show business. He would soon become one of the great comedy icons.

With his return to the big screen official, his fans have not been slow to express their excitement through social media. "I'll be there on the first day. Sitting. In the first showing. For him," and another posted: "Honestly, I'm more excited for Rick Moranis' return to acting in Spaceballs 2 than anything else. That man deserves the whole world." These gestures show that very few people in the Hollywood constellation, after several decades without working on a large scale, still maintain great respect and affection from the public.
