Ecuadorian music is in mourning after the passing of the renowned singer Paulina Tamayo, affectionately known as 'The Great of Ecuador', at the age of 60. The news was confirmed Tuesday morning by her family through a statement posted on her official social media accounts.

It has been reported that the artist from Quito, whose full name was Paulina de las Mercedes Tamayo, suffered a cardiac arrest at her home during the early hours. The social media statement included an emotional message remembering her musical legacy: "The Great of Ecuador, a legend of our music, leaves us a legacy that will live on forever. Her voice remains in the heart of an entire country. Thank you for everything, eternal Paulina, forever The Great of Ecuador."

Born in Quito in April 1965, Paulina Tamayo entered the entertainment world at the age of seven, joining Ernesto Albán's company. This period marked the beginning of a career that would span over 40 years, making her an emblematic figure of Ecuadorian popular music.

Throughout her career, Tamayo remained connected to Ecuador's traditional music, defending its power and dignity against other genres. Her extensive and diverse discography includes productions such as Hoy como ayer, Inimitable, Ecuador en mi corazón, and 4 décadas de canto apasionado. Her talent earned her nearly twenty awards and captivated entire generations both within and outside her country.
