More details are emerging about the murders of Rob Reiner and his wife, who were found with their throats slit in their Los Angeles home, all pointing to the couple's son, Nick, who is in police custody as the main suspect in the crime.
Now, as TMZ reports citing investigative sources, law enforcement has been gathering evidence in the Santa Monica hotel room where Nick stayed on Sunday night, which was reportedly filled with blood.
Hours earlier, family friends told the Los Angeles Times that Reiner and his son Nick had argued at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party on Saturday. They also stated that the man seemed disoriented and was not dressed appropriately for the event, wearing just a hoodie and appearing to be under the influence of a substance.
On Sunday, when he checked into The Pierside hotel in Santa Monica, employees said he seemed disoriented but not violent. However, the next day when they went to clean the room after he left, they found a significant amount of blood in the bathroom and on the bed sheets, prompting them to call the Police.
Rob and Michelle Reiner's bodies were discovered by their 28-year-old daughter Romy, who immediately contacted the Police. The distressed young woman, faced with the two bodies lying in a pool of blood, both with deep throat wounds, allegedly identified her brother Nick as the possible culprit, describing him as "dangerous", leading the investigation to focus on him.
Nick Reiner had openly discussed his battle with addiction and his experiences living on the streets. "I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas. I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It wasn't pleasant," he said in a 2016 interview with People.
In 'Being Charlie' (2015), a film he wrote about a 18-year-old addicted to narcotics and his relationship with his famous father, young Reiner drew inspiration from his own experiences and 17 rehab visits since he was 15.
