Among the many improbable combinations that an already improbable world faces, perhaps the one of Chuck Norris with death is indeed the least likely. Until it happens. Like it did this Friday when the actor, war veteran, karate expert, and star of some of the best memes of this virtual era passed away at a hospital in Hawaii at the age of 86 just hours after being admitted.

It can be said of Chuck Norris that some of the best punches seen on television and in movies for decades were his, that few embodied the tough guy role as he did with his mustache, and that in one of his first times on camera, he received an epic beating from none other than Bruce Lee. It may sound meager as an epitaph, but it is worth remembering that he also portrayed one of the most iconic characters that the action world has ever known: Walker, a Texas ranger who is actually Chuck Norris being Chuck Norris. And that was enough for him.

Before Chuck, there was Carlos Ray Norris, a boy from Oklahoma, with Irish and Cherokee roots.
