British musician Dave Mason, a key figure in late 60s rock and a founding member of the band Traffic, has passed away, leaving behind an extensive career marked by sonic innovation and top-level collaborations.

Born in 1946 in Worcester, England, Mason was a cornerstone of Traffic alongside Steve Winwood, contributing to the creation of some of the most influential albums in psychedelic and progressive rock. Although his time in the band was intermittent, his legacy was marked by compositions like Feelin' Alright, a song that gained worldwide fame after being covered by numerous artists, including Joe Cocker.

Beyond Traffic, Mason had a successful solo career, with standout albums like Alone Together (1970), considered one of his most representative works blending rock, folk, and blues. His skills as a guitarist and songwriter also led him to collaborate with music giants such as Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, and Eric Clapton.

Throughout his career, Mason was recognized for his versatility and a musical approach that transcended genres. In 2004, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic, solidifying his legacy in the genre's history.

In addition to his time with Traffic, Dave Mason was also part of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, the collective led by Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, with whom he toured in the late 60s in a particularly prolific period. In that environment, he crossed paths with figures like Eric Clapton, contributing to a lineup that served as a breeding ground for rock and blues talents, further establishing his reputation as a versatile guitarist and highly sensitive musician.

In his solo career, Dave Mason achieved one of his biggest hits with the song We Just Disagree, released in 1977 as part of the album Let It Flow. The melodic tune, reflecting on a conflict-free breakup, became his major chart-topping hit, solidifying his more accessible and popular side and expanding his recognition beyond the classic rock scene.

His passing marks the loss of one of the most unique voices of an irreplaceable generation, whose influence continues to resonate in contemporary rock.
