American influencer Gabbie Gonzalez, known for her lifestyle and motherhood content on social media, has been arrested in Los Angeles accused of participating in an alleged plot to murder her ex-partner, singer Jack Avery, former member of the boy band 'Why Don't We' and father of their shared daughter.
Authorities also arrested Francisco Gonzalez, Gabbie's father and a lawyer based in Florida, identified as one of the key figures behind the alleged conspiracy. According to the federal charges, both he and Gabbie face charges of murder conspiracy, attempted murder, and incitement to crime.
The case is reportedly related to a heated legal dispute over the custody of Lavender, the seven-year-old daughter of the former couple. Court documents suggest that during the process, Gabbie described Avery as a "dangerous" and "incapable" father, while investigations indicate that since 2021, she began conversations with her father about the possibility of hiring a hitman.
The investigation alleges that Francisco Gonzalez first tried to gather compromising material against the singer, including photos of him smoking or drinking, to harm him in court. Subsequently, the plan escalated to seeking individuals to intimidate or directly attack the musician.
Among those involved is Kai Cordrey, a surf instructor in Hawaii and Gabbie's partner at the time, who allegedly acted as an intermediary. According to the complaint, Cordrey used the dark web to contact who he believed was a hitman. Authorities claim that Francisco Gonzalez transferred thousands of dollars intended to pay for the supposed crime, some of which were disguised as payments for "web development services."
However, the supposed hitman turned out to be an undercover agent of the FBI. In conversations recorded by investigators, the accused reportedly confirmed payments, identified the target, and discussed various ways to execute the plan without raising suspicions, including the possibility of staging a car accident.
Gabbie Gonzalez's arrest has caused a strong impact on social media due to the influencer's popularity, with hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram and TikTok. Before her arrest, she shared posts related to travel, surfing, and family life.
Jack Avery, on the other hand, rose to fame as a member of 'Why Don't We', a youth group that was successful in the late 2010s. He currently pursues his solo career and recently released the single 'XOXOX'. Months ago, the singer revealed in an interview that the FBI had warned him about a supposed plan to harm his life, although at the time he claimed not to know who was behind the threat.
Gabbie Gonzalez remains detained without bail as the legal process progresses in California. Her father remains in custody in Florida.
