The public's reaction occurred when the venue's jumbo screen announced his presence to thousands of fans. Trump attended the game as a guest of James Dolan, owner of the New York Knicks, becoming the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals.

He was accompanied by his granddaughter Kai Trump, several advisors and cabinet members, and shared moments with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. The president's visit required a significant security operation in the vicinity of Madison Square Garden. Authorities reinforced access controls and recommended that attendees arrive several hours in advance.

Cameras also captured Trump at various moments during the game, including a moment where he appeared to doze off during the third quarter. Since his return to the White House in 2025, Trump has increased his presence at major sporting events, attending the Super Bowl, the Ryder Cup, the Daytona 500, and other internationally significant competitions.
