Marvel has finally done it! Just five months before its release, the franchise has just launched the official trailer for the new movie of Earth's mightiest heroes: Avengers Doomsday.
The film promises to be a true cameo festival. It seems that it will bring together the original X-Men, with the return of Ian McKellen as Magneto and Patrick Stewart as Professor X, in addition to the highly anticipated participation of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Alongside them, we will see the current protagonists of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Thor, the new Captain America, Shang-Chi, Ant-Man, the Fantastic Four, and Black Panther, among many others.
Marvel backtracks and bets on its big icons
If the production already includes more than 25 characters, the big surprise has been the return of Chris Evans as Captain America and, above all, the comeback of Robert Downey Jr. However, the latter will not return as Iron Man, but as the great villain of this era: Doctor Doom.
The premise is as simple as it is intricate: "Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga reaches its final chapter in Avengers: Doomsday from Marvel Studios. Iconic heroes from three different universes will be involved in a deadly collision and, ultimately, will face an unprecedented existential threat. This epic movie will lay the groundwork for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Everything seems to indicate that the original X-Men, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four will have to face each other to decide which universe survives and which one is destroyed, while Doctor Doom operates from the shadows.
The recent commercial failures and the content saturation of superheroes in the market have generated audience fatigue. However, it is expected that this summer, the solid release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the great exception. The extent of success that this new installment of the most iconic characters in pop culture will achieve is yet to be determined.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18th.
