Upon reaching adulthood, Xavier Trudeau (18) decided to forge his own future leaving aside his famous last name and without delving into the political intricacies where his father Justin Trudeau (54) and his grandfather Pierre served as Prime Ministers of Canada.
Despite this decision, he does not deny a privileged childhood, having transitioned from attending public elementary schools to private education in high school. "I felt pressured," he told GQ magazine regarding the family's political legacy.
As he grew up, he had to learn to live under public scrutiny in Ottawa and Montreal, which added extra pressure for Justin's eldest son and his then-wife, former TV presenter Sophie Grégoire (51), with whom the politician had two more children, Ella-Grace (17) and Adrian (12). The couple separated in 2023 after 18 years of marriage.
The teenager is clear that he does not want to follow the family tradition because he has seen what his father "had to do and the sacrifices he had to make, and the truth is that it doesn't pay off for me. He did it well, but it's not for me," he revealed last year on The Brandon Gomez Show podcast.
Therefore, he has chosen to pursue his great passion, music, and to gain more exposure, he has also tried modeling. "When I started releasing music, I received a lot of hate on social media just because of who my father is," he stated on the podcast. After contemplating his artistic name, he settled for a single name, Xav, as he aims to build his own identity and prove his worth through his art.
His first exposure to the arts was when he started playing the piano and, especially, the drums, which drove his family crazy from the basement because he couldn't stop playing them with all his might.
In 2025, he decided to take the plunge and make that year the start of his new life. In February, he released his first single, Til the Nights Done, featuring his sister Ella-Grace on the chorus; the following month he released his second single,Everything I Know, and in May he released the third, Back Me Up. Critics have stated that Xav is an emerging artist in the Canadian R&B scene.
In an interview with ¡Hola! magazine in July of this year, the singer mentioned that a large part of his compositions come from his own "experiences and emotions, but I also like to put myself in other people's shoes. Sometimes, the best songs come from imagining a story or being inspired by conversations and experiences of the people around you."
Experiencing this significant change in Xavier's life up close is his girlfriend Pariya Carello, a model and influencer in fashion, dance, and lifestyle whom he has been dating since August 2025. Last October, on his 18th birthday, his girlfriend wrote on Instagram: "I look forward to celebrating many more birthdays by your side" and "happy birthday to the love of my life."
The couple is very open on social media, as it is common to see them in a relaxed attitude and in everyday situations such as being in the sea showing their affection. In fact, during a trip to Miami, they posted a picture of themselves kissing, and interestingly, the soundtrack was the songDark Horseby Katy Perry (41), whom Justin Trudeau formally introduced as his girlfriend in July 2025.
"When I'm really happy with a song, I send it to her. She's always willing to give me advice or tell me what I should change," Xavier said about the singer during his appearance on the Can't Be Censored podcast last April. He also mentioned that the five-time American Music Awards winner is "very kind, very down-to-earth, and great. I think my dad is happy, and that's important."
After finishing high school, the eldest son of the former Canadian Prime Minister has expressed his intention to enroll at McGill University, where his mother studied commerce. However, it seems that at the moment, he is more focused on continuing to pursue his musical career.
His latest work has been the song Downton, which the Daily Mail extensively covered, showing images of his father and his girlfriend dancing in a Canadian hardware store to the beat of the song playing on the radio. In one part of the video, you can see the former Prime Minister dancing down the aisle waving a giant plunger.
