Gregg Popovich, one of the great legends of NBA coaching, has married at 77 years old with Mary Barth Budenholzer, the ex-wife of Mike Budenholzer, who was his assistant coach at the San Antonio Spurs for 17 seasons. According to the marriage license obtained by TMZ, the wedding took place on September 16th in Texas.
Budenholzer worked alongside Popovich from 1996 to 2013 before leaving to become the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. During those years, they were part of one of the most successful periods in Spurs history, winning several NBA titles.
Mike and Mary Budenholzer discreetly divorced in 2016. Two years later, in 2018, Erin Popovich, Gregg's first wife, passed away after battling a serious illness.
The start date of the relationship between Popovich and Mary is unknown, although they had been seen together at Spurs games during the past season. Mike Budenholzer has also moved on romantically.
The Spurs have chosen not to comment on their legendary coach's new marriage, adding another 'ring' to his collection, this time off the court.
