Natalia Potiraporã, known as Naty Potira, a famous football influencer, has died of cervical cancer at 39 years old, three years after being diagnosed. She was known for her close relationship with the Brazilian team Santos FC, of which she was a big fan.
Potira, a flight attendant, had become one of Santos' most popular fans on social media, where she gathered around half a million followers. The club itself announced her death through a post shared on social media.
"With great sadness, Santos FC announces the passing of our eternal fan, Naty Potira. Her unparalleled charisma and incredible friendliness made her very popular among Santos fans; she brought joy wherever she went, especially to Vila Belmiro," the team posted.
"Naty Potira was a lovely person who participated in countless events organized by the club, giving them a shine that we will never forget; an example of this was her work in raising awareness about 'Pink October,' a cause she always defended and promoted."
"This is the image we will always have of Natália Potira: a passionate fan who made Santos her life and spread love and joy to all who were lucky enough to know her. Thank you very much, Naty. Thank you for everything you did for the club and for all those who loved you. Strength to the family and friends of this unique person, whom we will never forget," the post concluded.
Potira was diagnosed with cancer three years ago during routine check-ups. She shared this circumstance on social media, where she explained her treatment and talked about the importance of check-ups. After the initial treatment, it seemed like the cancer had receded. However, shortly after, she had to face the worst news: it had metastasized. Sadly, at the end of August this year, she was admitted to Hospital Leforte in São Paulo, where she remained until her last days.
Santos' star player, Neymar, showed support for Potira during her treatment: he gave her a signed jersey and dedicated one of the club's victories to her.
When her death was announced, Neymar posted an emotional farewell message: "Rest in peace. Cheer for our team from up there".
