It is the closest experience to driving an Aston Martin on a race track, but from home. This is how Marek Reichman, Chief Creative Officer at the British brand and parent company of the Formula 1 team where Fernando Alonso competes, defines the new AMR-C01-R. It is not a car, even though it costs as much as a luxury car or a high-end sports car: it is a racing simulator designed in collaboration with the specialists at Curv Racing Simulators.
Only 50 units will be made available worldwide, with a price tag that will make your heart race: 58,750 pounds (68,000 euros at the current exchange rate) excluding taxes (21% VAT in this case). Orders are now open, and perhaps the Asturian driver is one of those who have already placed an order. Just in case he gets the urge during his free time.
This toy is actually an "exciting evolution" of the AMR-C01 model launched earlier this decade. The first thing that catches the eye is its design, almost like a sculpture that would not look out of place in certain living rooms. In fact, there are multimillionaires who go even further and use real motorcycles and cars - exclusive for one reason or another - to decorate their mansions.
Like its predecessor, it retains the carbon fiber monocoque, but the front grille has been redesigned to improve cooling. Other significant advancements focus on two essential aspects of such products: ergonomics and performance (gameplay, to simplify).
The driver now sits lower, accommodating taller individuals. With the design of the control panel or the steering wheel - very similar to that of a Formula 1 car - it feels like being at the helm of an Aston Martin Valkyrie, the hypercar with over 1,000 HP on which the prototype for the British team's return to the World Endurance Championship this year is based.
The software update is even more crucial. For instance, the 49-inch screen has a 1000R curvature, embracing the player and offering the maximum curvature achievable today. It also closely resembles the human field of vision... and is currently the most expensive. Additionally, the 240 Hz refresh rate (previously 120 Hz) and 1-millisecond response time (previously four) provide sharp and smooth images. Added to this is the HDR10+ Gaming technology (developed by Samsung) to create a more realistic racing environment.
The heart of the beast is a 14th generation Intel processor, with 32 GB of DDR5 memory (double the previous amount), and the graphics processing unit is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. Furthermore, to ensure that the racing library does not lack any favorite circuits, the solid-state memory storage capacity is doubled to 2 TB (Terabytes).
"If the AMR-C01 changed the game, this new model takes it to the next level. For those who demand the best, it is the ultimate racing simulator." Words from Darren Turner, founder of Curv Racing Simulators and three-time winner of Le Mans 24 Hours.
