A drop in the electrical system has affected all of Spain. Areas in Portugal and France also seem to have been affected. In several areas, the power has not yet been restored. Telephone lines across the country have gone down. Electricity has not yet returned to Barajas airport.

In cities like Seville, Barcelona, or Pamplona, the service has not yet been restored. The Valencia metro has announced that it has interrupted service throughout the network.

Red Eléctrica has announced that it has activated plans to restore the electricity supply and has stated that the reason was a zero, a drop in the electrical system, throughout the peninsular system. "The causes are being analyzed, and all resources are being dedicated to solving it," detailed the system operator.

There are many reasons why a power outage can occur. One of them is a demand peak that the system is unable to cover, although it is not common since Red Eléctrica constantly balances the grid to keep it in equilibrium and activates or deactivates - an excess of generation can also cause the system to fail - generation sources based on needs.
