Ukraine will receive a new reinforcement in its air defense in the context of its war against Russia. An American Patriot system, previously deployed in Israel, will be transferred to Ukrainian forces after being refurbished, as reported by The New York Times.
In addition to the shipment from Israel, Western allies are in talks to facilitate the delivery of another similar system from Europe.
Russia has once again attacked the capital of Ukraine. A new drone bombing has injured at least 11 people, including two children, and set fire to several residential buildings throughout the city.
Ukrainian and Russian citizens continue to be the most affected in this war, although both Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians in the war that Russia initiated over three years ago with a large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
As the bombs continue to fall, uncertainty remains about a possible ceasefire agreement. On Monday, Russia declared a three-day ceasefire from May 8 to 10, to which Kiev responded with a proposal to halt military activities for 30 days.
Ukraine Receives Patriot Air Defense System from the United States
A Patriot air defense system that was in Israel will be sent to Ukraine after being refurbished, according to four U.S. officials in recent days, as reported by The New York Times. Additionally, Western allies are discussing the logistics for Germany or Greece to provide another similar system. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, refused to describe President Trump's stance on the decision to transfer more Patriot systems to Ukraine, nor did they comment on whether this decision was made before he took office, during the Biden administration. The White House National Security Council did not provide details on the strength and location of the defense systems, said James Hewitt, a council spokesperson. "President Trump has been clear: he wants the war in Ukraine to end and the killing to stop," he said. The Department of Defense stated in a release that it "continues to provide equipment to Ukraine from previously authorized packages," referring to weaponry taken from existing inventories and new acquisitions.
