The 267th successor of the apostle Peter has a busy schedule of events after his greeting on the balcony as the new Pontiff and giving his first blessing Urbi et Orbe (To the city and the world). Tomorrow he will celebrate his first mass as Pope in the Sistine Chapel, the place where his election took place on the second day of the conclave, alongside the cardinals. Tradition dictated that he would sit on a throne and the cardinals would kiss the fisherman's ring. Francis preferred that this not be done as he found it to be something from the Middle Ages.
Subsequently, still without a set day and time, he will receive in audience some of the journalists who reported on his election in the eternal city. In the case of Pope Francis, he explained to them the reason why he chose the name of San Francisco de Asís, the saint of the poor.
Next Sunday, the new Pope will celebrate his first Angelus prayer on the balcony of St. Peter's Square where, most likely, he will outline his Pontificate.
Additionally, there will be a sort of papal investiture with a mass celebrated in front of political and religious leaders from around the world, a date for which the Vatican still has to confirm. Furthermore, the new Pontiff will tour St. Peter's Square in the papal vehicle for the first time and deliver a homily in which he will present his priorities.
