André Ventura, leader of the Portuguese far-right party Chega, had to be hospitalized on Tuesday after feeling unwell during a political rally, reports Efe.
According to local media, Ventura was delivering a speech at the Tavira Exhibition Park in the Algarve region in the south of the country when he suddenly grabbed his chest and then his throat.
He was quickly surrounded by his security and taken off the stage to be transported by ambulance to the Faro Hospital.
Portugal's acting Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, wished him a speedy recovery and that it is "nothing serious," in a message on his X account.
In the same room where the rally was taking place, Chega's parliamentary leader, Pedro Pinto, later stated that Ventura was "fine and conscious," but he was going to be taken to a hospital to assess his health condition.
Ventura is campaigning for the legislative elections next Sunday.
