Andriy Portnov, a 52-year-old Ukrainian accused of high treason in his country, died this morning after being shot five times near the American School in the Madrid municipality of Pozuelo de Alarcón (Spain). The victim had taken his children to the educational center.

The deceased, a former advisor to former Ukrainian president Victor Yanukovich, reportedly worked in support of Russia, which has been in a war for over three years after invading the former Soviet republic, but he also had a history of embezzlement and could be linked to organized crime.

Andriy Portnov was investigated for embezzlement of state funds or human rights violations in Ukraine. He was acquitted of the charges but was investigated by the Ukrainian secret service (SBU) for his affinity with Russia. He was also investigated for high treason, for his alleged role in the invasion of Crimea.

It is believed that he was shot in the back, one of the shots hit his neck, and after falling face down, he was shot in the head, according to initial police investigation data.

The perpetrator, a tall and slim man, is being sought, who, after shooting the victim, fled through Casa de Campo.

The incident took place around nine fifteen in the morning on America Street, number 3, in Pozuelo, near the American School when dozens of students were entering at that time, according to police sources.

Upon receiving the alert, agents from the Scientific Police and the Homicide Unit V have moved to the crime scene to take charge of the investigation.

Upon arrival, Summa 112 could only confirm the man's death from injuries incompatible with life after being shot several times with a firearm.
