The former White House spokesperson during President Joe Biden's term is set to release a book announcing her break from the Democratic Party, as reported by Efe. Karine Jean-Pierre also denounces in the text what she describes as a "betrayal" by that party towards the president.
In the book, scheduled for release in October under the title 'Independent. A Look Inside a Broken White House, Beyond Partisan Lines,' Jean-Pierre encourages Americans to "embrace life as independents."
The publisher presents the book as a "revealing and innovative assessment of the broken two-party system in the United States" and ensures that the author "did not take lightly her decision to declare herself independent."
In the text, Jean-Pierre, spokesperson between 2022 and 2025, recounts what she describes as "the three weeks that led Biden to abandon his candidacy for a second term and the betrayal of the Democratic Party that motivated his decision."
Biden, 82, withdrew from the reelection race in July 2024, facing internal pressures from his party, criticism due to his advanced age, and questions about his physical and mental state.
The Democrat passed the baton to his former vice president, Kamala Harris, who was ultimately defeated in the elections by Donald Trump.
Jean-Pierre, who also served in the team of Democratic President Barack Obama (2009-2017), made history during Biden's term (2021-2025) by becoming the first openly African American and LGBTQ person to hold the position of White House Press Secretary.
Her book seems to position itself as a response to another title that has shaken the political landscape in Washington: 'Original Sin,' in which journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson reveal that the president's inner circle would have deliberately covered up his mental decline.
The former Democratic president, recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, maintains that if he had run in the 2024 elections, he would have defeated Trump again, as he did in 2020.
